The Mahinda College ‘Do You Know Society’ has had several births and deaths. In November 1998 the quiz society was revived and took to inter-school competitions with great zeal.

Since 1998, one of their significant achievements was the winning of the ‘Sirasa Nenasa’ Horlicks Master Mind Contest in 1999. That put Mahinda on a pedestal far above the rest. From then onwards Mahinda went on from victory to victory. Among them, two outstanding victories should be mentioned here; ‘The Walls Discovery Channel Quiz’ conducted island wide by the Sri Lankan Rupavahini Corporation in 1999. The path to victory was not smooth. Facing many odds we became champions defeating Visaka Vidyalaya in the final round.

The next significant achievement was the winning of the ‘Hatton National Penamuthu’ quiz programme sponsored by the Hatton National Bank. We beat Royal College 80 – 40 and were declared champions.

All in all, Mahinda College ‘Do You Know’ team has been able to win six championships, including two all-island championships during the past few years. Mahinda College ‘Do You Know Society’ is really fortunate to have an upcoming young generation of quiz contestants. With the help of the experienced team members they are now planning to build up a strong junior quiz team, which has a bright future.

After a very long period of service as the Master-in-charge of the Mahinda College ‘Do you Know Society’ Mr.Nimal Gamage was transferred last September. Also Y.L.P.P. Goonathilake who captained the team in 1998, left the college after a fine contribution, to proceed with his higher education. His and Mr. Nimal Gamage’s services will be written in golden letters, in the history of the ‘Do You Know Society’.

Commitment, unity and determination, that’s the secret of their success. With that they are eyeing for further heights. So, don’t be surprised to see the name of Mahinda College, in most of all-island finals(if not in everyone) of the quiz competitions in the future.
