1997 was a successful year for the athlete at Mahinda College. They won the championship at the Gall Zonal competitions with ease and became runners-up at the Provincial Competitions. At these competitions striking achievements were the creation of two new Provincial records. Kesara Suriyaarachchi created a new under 19 record in high jump. I.Chathura Soyza won the under 15 ‘Javelin Throw’ and the 100m hurdles. U.S.Godage was declared the best under 17 athlete of the meet.

At the Junior National Athletics Competition Kesara Suriyaarachchi won the second place in ‘Throwing the discus and the third place in the same event at the public school’s meet.

In 1998 we were able to runners-up at the Zonal Athletics Meet. Kesara Suriyaarachchi won the under 19 Discus Throw creating new record. Raga Prabashwara also won the under 17 Pole Vault with a record jump.

For these achievements our grateful thanks go to Lieut.Col.L.E.P.W.Jayathilaka, Messrs.Piyal Weerasekara, Sampath Jayasena and P.Nanayakkara who are doing their best give us the best training and to the Principal and staff for their assistance in word and deed at all times.
